Tanya Hendrix

Where Am I From?
Born and raised in Alabama, first in the “country” in south Alabama before moving to the Alabama Gulf Coast in high school, I have lived from one end of this great state to another and several points in between. I now call Huntsville home, where I live with my husband and two dogs.

How Do My Clients Describe Me?
Passionate, persistent, and hard-working. I’ve put those qualities to work for my clients since 2001 when licensed as an attorney in Alabama.

What Different Areas of Law Have I Practiced?
My legal career has been wide-ranging. I began as a prosecutor, specializing in crimes against children. I then opened a general practice law firm where I represented clients in divorce and custody cases, adoptions, criminal defense, estate planning, and other legal matters. In 2013, I closed my law practice to follow my heart and help victims of sex trafficking. Following the heart doesn’t always provide a sustainable living, so I soon returned to the law for a brief stint representing creditors in litigation. In 2017, I moved to Huntsville and represented clients in high-conflict divorce and custody cases, uncontested divorces, and adoptions before moving to estate planning full-time.

What Does My Experience Look Like?
I have in excess of 75 jury trials under my belt as a prosecutor and defense attorney, hundreds of bench trials, and numerous settlements. My entire career has been dedicated to helping people through difficult situations and decision-making, whether it was a criminal matter or preparing a Last Will & Testament.

Why Do I Advocate for Individuals Who Have Experienced Oppression and Abuse?
I spent more than 7 years on the front lines helping sex and labor trafficking victims in the United States. As a volunteer with an organization searching for missing and exploited children, my expertise developed in identifying victims on the streets and online, so I spent countless hours literally walking the streets and online looking for victims. I’ve trained law enforcement and civilians about human trafficking, how to identify victims, and how to help. My Bible study, Seen: A study of 5 Biblical women who were deceived, raped, and disregarded yet seen by God, is a direct result of the 6 months I lived in a safe house with sex trafficking victims. For more than 25 years, I have used my voice to help those who are oppressed and in need of help, whether that be victims of rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, or trafficking.

Education:
Foley High School, 1994

Books By Tanya

We want to pursue our purpose and use our gifts and talents for God, but we may be afraid to speak out or step out because of what we’ve been taught about women’s roles in the church. We want to know what the Bible really says about women and women’s rights.

I speak and write books, blogs, and Bible studies about Jesus, justice, and women. My life’s work has been serving victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and women who need encouragement, understanding, and hope in their faith life. I understand the need to feel seen and loved.
